How grinding works
A carbide-toothed wheel chews the stump and its major roots down past ground level, turning the wood into fine chips. We rake those chips back into the void so the spot settles flat instead of leaving a crater. Most residential stumps take well under an hour once we're set up.
What we need from you
Access to the stump, and a heads-up on anything buried nearby — irrigation lines, invisible dog fence, septic, utilities. We ask you to have utilities marked before we grind close to a house or along a line.
Why we visit first
Stump price depends on diameter, root flare, soil, hidden rock and how tight the access is. Walking the property is the only way to give a number we'll stand behind — so a quote request usually starts with scheduling that short visit.
FAQs
Common questions
How deep do you grind?
Standard is 4-6 inches below grade, which is enough for lawn and seeding. If you're planting a tree or pouring concrete, tell us and we'll go deeper where the machine can reach.
Do you haul the chips away?
Chips stay on site by default and get backfilled into the hole — that's included. Hauling them off is an extra charge, just ask and we'll price it with the job.
Will it wreck my lawn?
There'll be tire tracks and some disturbance right around the stump, but we use the smallest machine that can do the job and lay down protection on soft ground when needed.
Can you get into a fenced backyard?
Usually yes. Tell us your gate width in the quote form and we'll bring a machine that fits.
Do you remove the roots too?
We grind the stump and the surface roots flaring off it. Deep lateral roots are left in the ground, since chasing them means tearing up the yard.
What does it cost?
It depends on stump size, count and access. Quotes are always free — send measurements or photos with your request and we'll give you a ballpark before the visit.
